What Does This Trade Cover?
The Gas- und Sanitaertechnik trade license covers all plumbing and sanitary installations, including:
- Water supply systems (cold and hot water)
- Drainage and sewage installations
- Gas installations and gas appliance connections
- Bathroom and sanitary facility installations
- Fire extinguishing systems (water-based)
Qualification Alternatives
- Apprenticeship (Lehrabschluss) in Gas- und Sanitaertechnik + Master exam
- HTL diploma (Technical High School) in relevant field + 3 years practical experience
- University/FH degree in relevant engineering + 2 years practical experience
- Individual assessment (§19 GewO) based on extensive work experience
- Qualified manager (§39 GewO) who holds the qualification
Important: Gas Installation Regulations
Gas work requires extra care!
Working with gas installations is subject to additional safety regulations (OEVGW guidelines).
Installers must be registered with the local gas network operator. Regular safety inspections
of gas appliances are mandatory in most Austrian states.
Combination with Heating Technology
Many plumbers also hold the Heizungstechnik (heating technology) license, as the two trades frequently overlap. You can hold both qualifications and offer combined services. The qualification exams share some common modules.
